So this post isn’t exactly travel related…well it’s quite the opposite actually but I felt as like if I didn’t write this down and have it out there somewhere then it just wouldn’t happen. I am a huge bookworm, I am continuously buying more books when I haven’t even finished my current read yet. I have 8 books sitting on the shelf to be read at the moment and I could easily go up the shop now and spend the rest of the afternoon in the book store..actually that doesn’t sound like a bad idea, be right back…..
No no I won’t do that, naughty Katelyn (tsk, tsk tsk), let’s save some money for all those holidays I’ve got planned first.
Anyway, the purpose of this post is to have in writing that I’m going to participate in NANOWRIMO which stands for the National Novel Writing Month. For those of you who don’t know, this is a community full of prospective and budding writers to share their ideas and stories and the goal is to have written a 50,000 word novel by 11:59pm on 30 November 2018. NANOWRIMO has been operating for many many years and if you’re interested in finding out more or even participating, just head on over to their website and start reading. It’s super easy to navigate around and it’s free to sign up (what more of an incentive do you need…go and get your creative juices flowing). https://nanowrimo.org/about
I have everything set up, my laptop ready to go and just a few books to provide me with some inspiration. I think the main issue is going to actually be how to begin the book, am I going to write it from my perspective, from the characters perspective, from a third person??? Ah this is what is plaguing me the most, it’s such a daunting thing. The first sentence sets the tone for the novel, it’s what brings the reader in, so much pressure!
I still have 11 days before I can start writing so I’m going to be spending the next few days brainstorming and jotting down my ideas. Hopefully I can come up with something semi-decent by the time 1 November rolls around but we shall see. Not going to put too much pressure on myself seeing as it’s the first time I’m ever doing this. Just going to try my best and see how far I can get. You never know, if I’m any good at this writing business you might just be seeing my books in a bookstore near you someday.
I’m going to try and keep a running blog of my process to keep myself motivated and accountable to this. Wish me luck!
